I agree with you all. I find that everything is all ICT and i-pads at home, that I often find it hard to compete with then in class and especially in SEN.
IT’s all very stimulating and engaging, but often I find that difficult to compete with to make various lessons and topics fun.

I feel that Rubrics For and EAL group will definitely be something that I will be using in September. It’s a fun way to ensure learning and understanding of the task at hand. I feel that this clearly sets out what is been asked of them. This is also a useful skill for them to have and develop on as they move throughout the education system, so regardless of their vocabulary, they will understand the task and what’s included. I hadn’t thought of using this in a SEN setting.

E-portfolio: I also like the idea of this, especially up in the senior end and with my EAL group. They could also make it into a google slides, and include their flag, picture of their family and present it to their group. Additionally, This could also be used as an assessment to the vocab they are learning and include pictures of the vocab with the picture. The portfolio will then be an accumulation of the various topics they covered throughout the year. This would be a nice homework activity, if they have access at home. It would also be a nice way to include parents.
I feel that this e-portfolio would be a wonderful addition for a child I work with, who has DLD. It’s a nice way to be inclusive and incorporate the use of ICT. Instead of children drawing out pictures for every word, in this specific child’s case, he can use google slides to incorporate pictures and label. As a result, this child will build up a bank of new skills and resources. This will also form part of their assessment portfolio.

Hi, I was just having a look at DIEBEL, as it’s an area I’m interested in improving. Is it a whole school approach and did your school buy the programme?

    Thanks, Aisling

    Hi Kitty,

I love using rubrics, but I never thought of using them for google classrooms. This is definitely something that I think I will use more this year with the senior end. Leaving comments also is a great way, (posing a question) includes a form of self-assessment and enables parents to engage and understand the activity at hand also. I personally use rubrics as they give the child/children a clear outcome of what is required and needed for any activity. It helps them plan accordingly and effectively. Thanks for that idea. Aisling
