I agree with you Lucy it would help if teaching multi grade. I suppose as they become more popular and implement more in school resources may become easier.
I lave not engaged in learning centres as a teacher, however as a playschool teacher we did use them especially as part of Aistear. Our philosophy was play based so it naturally worked for us.
Learning centres work well with UDL as we will always have students who learn differently than their classmates, and learning centres can help you ensure all your students are getting the specific education they need.Students can use learning centres to explore further and practice skills you’ve taught them in class. Children that learn by doing may thrive more in a space that has a break from of traditional classroom teaching.
I agree with the other ladies who posted that it is very difficult to resource and have them prepared. Hopefully someone in the department might see the error of their ways and improve. 🫣
As a NQT I like Socratic App. I think that especially for juniors up to 3rd or 4th they would get enjoyment out of the rocket races. As a teacher I think I would use it for literacy assessment. I feel it would be suitable for the class I had last year ( I’m not sure about this year what class I have) as they liked competitions.
The assessment feedback would be very helpful especially when discussing a child’s progress with SET or other teachers. I sometimes feel standard tests are very daunting and only a snap shot of the child ability on that day.I think kahoot is very useful. I used it last year for 3rd/4th class. I also used it for assessments when we finished topics. Kids really engaged in it.

Hi Gillian
That is a fantastic idea to use the crosswords for assessment. I will have to rob that idea😁
I think that both websites are a fantastic resource to have. I do think the Mary I bingo makers and word clouds are very useful. The bingo makers could be very useful for any class.
