Hi Anna, I totally agree with your post, it is overwhelming the choice that is out there and trying to decide what site will help me meet the targets for each child, it is vast. THis course has helped with the variety that is out there and having gone through some sites this week has helped me understand what is available and how they can help certain children on my caseload.

I think the Toy Theatre web page is brilliant for games to help with concentration and also challenge the students at the same time.  The games are quite interesting and challenging at the same time and there is lots of variety in the one place.  I have one or two children in mind that I will be able to use these games with next year.

Yes it is a great tool and also grea that you can differentiate the work to suit the children in your group.  Its fab and I will def be using it and sharing it with my colleagues in the new school year.

I love that FISH acronym, it is definitely something I could see myself doing in the year ahead, especially with the groups that I take.   I haven’t really used self assessment in SET before but I think it could be really beneficial.

Reading all these forum replies has been very helpful.  Bloom’s Taxonomy Question Stems For Use In Assessment [With 100+ Examples]  This Blooms Taxonomy is something I want to look at further and the  Quick phonics screening that was mentioned earlier is also a super resource.  Thanks for highlighting these webpages.  I have that downloaded and ready to use in September.

Having worked in SET for ttwo years now, I always like to read about new ideas and assessments to use with the children on my caseload.

As I work in a junior school, I find the Early Literacy Profile from First School Years really helpful in assessing the children in September and it gives me a really good idea on how to group the children for literacy groups. It is quite a long assessment and needs to be carried out over a few sesssions and some children don’t get to the end as it is too hard but it covers so much from a literacy point of view.  http://www.firstschoolyears.com/literacy/word/assessment/pupils%20literacy%20profile.pdf

I also find the “thoughts about school” profile page very insightful and helps get a good idea of where they are at coming back to school in September.  This year< i think I will do it again at the review stage and see how opinions have changed since the start of the year.

The Continium of Support resouce document is very useful to get to know the children and focus your thoughts when getting the support file set up.
