    Hi Julie,
Yes, one of the main challenges is usually hardware and/or wifi problems which can sometimes lead to the inevitable ‘It’s easier to just not use it’. It can be disheartening when you have spent time preparing something and then you find the ipad trolley missing or not charged!

I use ‘My Thoughts About School’ at the beginning of the year. I find it gives a great opportunity to connect with and get to know individual children. For example, you may discover that a child loves Minecraft or art or dancing and can then integrate this into the activities or conversations with the child. I find when I do this that the child feels seen and heard. Often in a class of 25+ children it can be difficult  for a child to have their voice heard among so many others. I often use this information in a child’s SSP and it has been commented on by the MCT that they had no idea they did judo or art classes etc. outside of school. It was mentioned by one participant that every child completes the ‘My thoughts about school’. I think this is a fantastic idea as it can uncover information that otherwise would not be known.

    Daphne,

I really enjoyed reading your post. All of the points you have meant in relation to a 360 degree view of the child are so relevant. Often, it can just be a school’s view of the child which is one dimensional. I really resonated with your comment about incidental comments between staff regarding a child as these are rarely if ever notated on the child’s file. I agree that setting a meeting with the pertinent parties is an excellent strategy to ensure that this practice is kept to a minimum.

in reply to: Google Slides as a tool for use with SEN Pupils #36771

I had never used google slides either until yesterday. It is almost identical to Microsoft Powerpoint though so I didn’t have much trouble. It would appear that Google Suite is a similar endeavour to Microsoft Teams/365 so depending on what your school is using, you may never have used Google products. My school use Microsoft Teams/365 for everything. So using a different interface, broadens my knowledge and understanding and thus that of the children I work with. The two main advantages I can see straight away are 1) It is free for everyone to use and 2) can be used at home and in school so a child could work on their project at home or show their parents what they have been working on.
