I like the idea of the Aistear copy Mairead, I imagine it would show progression very clearly over the course of the year in terms of play interests, partners but also drawing and writing. I had been using a handout per month but might try this option this year.
That sounds a lovely, fun and supportive way to check for learning in the mornings Jane
Wow a brilliant range of assessment methods Aoife. Tell us more about the ‘passport to playtime’, I’m intrigued!
That sounds brilliant Olivia. It’s an assessment tool I don’t make enough use out of so great to get some more ideas.
Lovely idea to use Book Creator Kelly to create the portfolio with the children Kay. We are looking at Seesaw tomorrow and that might be an alternative to consider also.
Lovely examples of conferencing there Kay
Useful to have this feedback Alan
I used the free trial at the end of the year for JI. It reflected what we knew from observations and assessments. The children enjoyed doing it and it was faster than trying paper based assessment for all. I have signed up for next year and hopefully will be able to use it more formatively during the year.
Very comprehensive approach for JI Samara!
Very useful document for children operating at this level.
Samara, Gemma I agree assessing sensory needs through checklists (with parental input as well as school based) and observation is so important. It is key that we match the sensory break times and types of input we give to children’s needs and preferences rather than a ‘one size fits all’ approach.
Great to get parental input!
Hi Cristin, can you tell us more about the test2r? What information did you get from the screener and the diagnostic? Were there any surprises. I’m currently using the Drumcondra Early Literacy and wondering if this is a better alternative.
I have used Jolly Phonics assessment also and agree it is a nicely structured tool. This year I have started using the Core Phonics assessment and that is worth checking out also.
Understanding the likes and dislikes are particularly important in the special class, Janet, as you have identified. Teaching through special interests and talents is the key!
