Yes the YARC is a very good test to use at the beginning of the year. You can also use it to analyse reading errors which may inform your teaching goals. Fiona
Hi Orla, I think you have raised very interesting points re using a scribe to complete the Thoughts about School. I have always felt that this is complicated…we need to support those children for whom filling in a written form would be off putting and thus we may not get comprehensive answers but equally if you have not yet established a relationship with the child they may be unlikely to open up to you with answers.
