I would agree with you Mary that ICT is very empowering and with platforms like Kahoot it really gives the children the chance to learn in a fun manner, ICT can really give use the opportunity to facilitate learning.

ICT is a great motivation tool for the children and gives them a real sense of fun for learning, there are a great range of assessment tools for the teachers and it can really help us with our work load. It really gives children the opportunity to explore their learning in a meaningful manner and there is a massive connection with secondary school which the children in the higher classes love( google classrooms). Platforms like Seesaw gives the opportunity to contact with school and home in a very informal quick manner which is great

One of the biggest negatives in my opinion is that people will become too self reliant on ICT.

I would agree with Sarah that the self assessment really gives the ownership of the education on the child, it gives them the chance to really focus on their work  and I identify where they are doing well and where they can improve, I think it is also important that the children gets to set on or two of their own targets when you are setting out targets for them, like self assessment it gives them ownership and more pride

I have used the 11 plus guide free maths assessment that is on Adrian’s site last year, I found it very useful as I was able to see exactly in what area the children were struggling with. The two children that were getting extra support I was able to tell the SET teacher were exactly the child needed help with. The SET teacher was then able to focus on these areas.

Thank you so much for sharing Bloom’s Taxonomy I never heard of it and looks great for questioning. I would have to agree that questioning is a very effective method of assessment, like you have mentioned the key is asking the right questions and you as a teacher knowing exactly what you want the child to be able to comprehend. I will definitely find out the interests of the children I will be working with and use pictures in order to work on their oral development and also their comprehension skills.

I have found using peer assessment a great tool for assessment and also the children really enjoy it. I use ‘two stars one wish’ particularly in story writing both in English and Irish, where a child most read an other child’s work, they then write two things they really liked and one area they think the child could improve in. I have found that the children really enjoy it and really take on board what their peer has said. I normally then have a chat with each child at the end of the week on what has been written and how they can improve.
