I am having similar issues but mostly because the WIFI is poor in my room and myself and the children are often out on the corridor on bean bags playing games and doing puzzles. Great fun!

The Quick Phonics Screener sounds good. I download a freebie called ‘Two Peas’ It is probably similar. Not sure what DEIBEL is but I’m sure I’ll be able to look it up.

    Thank you.

I read through the various methods of self assessment I realised that I do ‘My Thoughts about School’ with the children and thought I was doing well. I meet parents to discuss the child’s needs and put together new targets and assess some children using the ‘Two Peas’ phonological assessment. I use the YARC for more children. But having listened to Fiona and read the NCCA Self assessment methods I realise I still have quite a lot still to do.

I keep portfolios of  the children’s work and on occasion will discuss with them how improvements can be made. I see now that it is so important to keep a few minutes aside every couple of weeks to chat with a child about the standard of work they hand in. I go in class for Literacy to various classes and I will be sure to introduce Rubrics and Conferencing on a regular basis. Peer assessments made a big impression on me also because it will help with oral language and confidence levels, not to mention the children being able to listen to both positive and negative comments from each other.

I know my targets are S.M.A.R.T but the weekly plan Fiona uses is very practical. It’s helpful to see the targets and how the they can be broken down into small steps each day.

Yes I agree with you, I have two similar children who do not like to read or write. I have found the Read and Write extensions very useful for them. I have used Book Creator also which they loved however it is only free for a short while. One little boy who does not like reading has written two books about his favourite Youtube characters and has read them to the class. I am realising that the same would happen with the use of Google Slides and it’s free!
