Yes I agree that getting enough devices can be a challenge at certain times of the day.
Also, you made some good points about sharing games and project work with their families at home, I had forgotten about this important benefit of ICT in SET… Well done!
I enjoy using the portfolio assessment method with the pupils in my care. I love encouraging the children to select work that they are proud of, to include in their individual portfolio. I like this assessment method as it reflects the uniqueness of each child. It gives the children a sense of ownership over their work and it encourages them to take pride in their efforts. As I teach in a multi-grade setting, each year pupils add to their portfolio and over the years they build up a collection of wonderful work samples from each class. I believe that pupils benefit from looking back at their work samples and observing their progress, such as neater handwriting etc. It develops their ability to praise themselves, which in turn builds up their self-esteem and helps them to cultivate a positive mind-set.
Our school is working towards assisting pupils in creating a digital pupil portfolio of work that they are proud of, as part of the Digital Learning Plan. I know understand the importance of conferencing with pupils individually about the work that they select to document in their digital portfolio. I also believe conferencing is a key element of assessment. Effective teachers engaging in conferencing regularly in an informal way with pupils, parents and colleagues. However, one aspect of assessment that I wish to work on this year is documenting the variety of assessment methods used in my classroom setting, cofernencing being one in particular!
I love the F.I.S.H. acronym and have never come across it before, thank you!
I look forward to using this next year.
The ‘My Thoughts About School Checklist’ is a fantastic resource that the SET teacher intially used with one of the pupil in my class. However, this year I used it with all pupils in my multi-grade, senior classroom on a termly basis. I believe that it is important to give all pupils a voice and this template awards them that opportunity.
Upon reflection, having used this checklist regularly with all pupils, I believe that it strenghtened our relationship. It built upon the trust in our classroom as each time I reminded them to be honest so that I could do my best to reflect on daily routines and adapt if necessary.
