Thank you for the fantastic overview from all we learned from the course this week. As we did cover so much I think your idea of taking one or two resources/ apps/ websites at a time and fully getting used to using them is a great idea.
The quick phonics screener is a resource I have not heard of before. I looked it up and it seems quite straight forward to administer. Sometimes it can be difficult to know where to begin with phonics. Thank you for mentioning it.
This module on assessment was very beneficial for me moving from a class teacher role to a SET role. This year I would really like to use conferencing in SET. Using the template My Thoughts about School Checklist the teacher can gain insights into the way a child feels at school. SMART targets can be made from this conferencing in order to work with a child who may need help socially or have behavioral issues. The template is child friendly and much easier to use than asking questions directly to a child. It can also be used from the Junior end of the school to the Senior end with the teacher acting as a scribe if needs be. It will be really useful in September to assess a child who may do very well on standardized tests and excel academically but may struggle with self-esteem and the way they see themselves. I like that conferencing is built upon a mutual trust between the child and the teacher and is a method to enhance the child’s learning.
I really like the way you could use Google Slides for the Junior Classes in this way. It would be great for children to become familiar with Google early in their schooling as using a computer is a life skill these days!
