Yes Deirdre..I too am suffering from ‘Long Seesaw’ & not likely to recover any time soon!

Also in agreement that the plethora of excellent websites will have to be have to be road-tested. I see a load of potential in senteacher.org. Beidh foireann na scoile an-shásta leis an gceann sin go deimhin.

Really like the Quick Phonics screener & I could adapt it for my setting. I’ll be using this with the new second class to assess their phonics after one year of English.

For me questioning is a very useful assessment tool. Effective questioning gives the teacher immediate feedback on what is understood by the child, which I can then use to modify my teaching.

I have Bloom’s Taxonomy pinned on my notice board. This website has a good download.

Bloom’s Taxonomy Question Stems For Use In Assessment [With 100+ Examples]

For children who have social communication needs, it is important to ask very clear questions. When working a child this year, I used pictures  based on his interests & pictures in the magazine Epic as a way to get him engage and communicate. We worked on the closed questions, who, what, where, when etc. We now have reached the point where we are introducing some open questions, how, why, could & would. The progress has been slow but steady. Asking & understanding what is being asked makes up so much of our daily interactions with each other.

I immediately thought of one child that I have also. This child’s whole demeanor changes when coding is involved and think that this will be  great. It will probably be the case that I ‘ll be the learner!

Google slides is really useful for when doing  project work either for an individual or  in small group setting. I used this a good bit when I had 4th,5th & 6th class a number of years ago. It is well worth the time & effort to ‘train up’ the children on all the different aspects and when they ‘get’ it there is no limit to what they can present. It’s very important that they have a good grasp of this skill going on to secondary school and it’s a great confidence booster.
