Many thanks for your detailed post. As you have highlighted, use of Bloom’s Taxonomy is an excellent way of ensuring that our lessons are differentiated appropriately for all pupils. I have used the Bloom’s Taxonomy teacher planning toolkit as a guide when asking effective questions.

Having a copy of the timetable in advance will ease anxiety for pupils before transitioning to post-primary. It will give them the opportunity to familiarise themselves with reading the timetable and managing resources for each subject.

Using Bruce Perry’s 3 Rs is an excellent way of promoting co-regulation in our schools. The visual is an excellent prompt to remind us of these simple steps.

I love the idea of Leo making his own personalised transition booklet. This will ensure that it is pitched to meet both his strengths and needs.

Many thanks for your responses. Our classroom environment is key. It needs to be calm, inviting and we need to ensure that everyone feels that sense of belonging. Having a sensory space in the classroom is vital to support students to self-regulate- it is teaching them skills they need beyond the classroom.

As you have addressed, UDL and differentiation are essential. I agree, Katie Novak really does explain how to do this effectively. Check out her podcasts and her website for further details on UDL, http://www.novakeducation.com

You have highlighted ‘first and then’ for choice boards. They are really beneficial to support pupils with transitions. They are also useful as it gives students choice as they have autonomy to choose their preferred activities.

Many thanks for sharing examples of activities that involve creativity and drama. It is so vital to include creativity to allow pupils to embrace their own strengths and interests. Thanks for sharing names of the theatre companies also.

You mention board games at break times, this is a wonderful idea. It is an excellent opportunity to support students who find lack of structure at break time challenging.

Many thanks for your posts. Yes, creating a calming atmosphere is vital. It is also neuro-affirming which is pertinent to ensure every child is aware that it is a safe space and where they have a sense of belonging.
