Shelley Moore’s comparison of a mixed ability class to bowling pins is such an excellent way of understanding the importance of knowing each student to ensure no one is left standing looking back at us.

I also find the podcasts very useful, you could be listening to them when driving. Shelley Moore’s podcasts ‘5 Moore minutes’ are very informative from an international perspective while Joanne Banks ‘Inclusion Dialogue’ is excellent from an Irish perspective.

Using the various types of co-teaching is extremely effective in meeting need within the class. It is inclusive and ensures all pupils are supported to reach their full potential. Best practice is to use a range of co-teaching methods- there is no one size fits all approach.

Yes, transition from primary to post-primary is a massive step for our pupils. We need to ensure that there is clear communication between schools to ensure that the new school can put the appropriate supports in place to meet the child’s needs.

Yes, it is imperative that parents are involved so that they can support their child during the transition period. They are key stakeholders so need to be included at every step.

Absolutely, the child’s SNA will have such a wealth of information to share on the childs’ strengths, needs and interests. It is pertinent that they are involved in the plan for transition. The Personal Pupil Plan will be of great support also.

I love the idea of the five finger summary. Using a strategy such as this will be of great support to the pupil in their post-primary school also. The use of checklists are a great scaffold to support pupils with organisation.
