You are so correct about the challenges of ICT Julie and it’s always when you are dependent on it that it will let you down. I often find that the time spent problem solving with ICT e.g. ipads not charged , devices not available or the quiz/exercise you have set won’t work for some reason, can often make the exercise counterproductive if you do get to do it at all. You are so right, you should always have a plan B when working with ICT.
I like that idea Olivia of keeping the children’s portfolios online. We use Seesaw in our school and I think that would be a great way of sharing the childrens work with their parents and having a collection of their work that they can look at anytime or show to whoever they like during the year.
As I will be new to SET in September it was great to learn about all the many and varied tools of assessment that are available. I particularly like the Conferencing tools i.e. My Thoughts About School Checklist’ and ‘How Do You Feel?’ document. Both I feel would give me a very good insight into the child’s emotional state and how the child views him/herself as a learner. Conferencing with parents is also a vital part of assessment as they know the child better than anyone else.
I also think I will use Portfolio Assessment. It is a lovely idea to get the children to choose the pieces of work that they are proud of and as the year goes on they can look at this volume of work and see the progress that they are making throughout the year. -
